Epic Engineering’s civil engineers undertook the massive task of performing major rehabilitation to South Heart Road, in Dunn County, North Dakota. This 29-mile segment of gravel roadway was utilized as a major trucking route for accessing oil fields, and due to its gravel construction, its service life had expired.
Our team undertook the new design with geometrics as well as a new asphalt pavement surface. As part of this project, Epic’s team redesigned a 120-foot, two-lane, single-span bridge meeting HS-20 standards. This included girders, abutments, and wing walls. Epic obtained right-of-way and temporary easements for the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Our full-service engineering firm also performed all construction management and oversight of the project, as well as all the material testing. The project was broken up into three phases to ensure completion of the project according to seasons and budgets.
